Mestia

Mestia is the largest settlement in Svaneti, Georgia. There are 2600 people living in Mestia at an altitude of 1400 m above sea level. Basically the tours start from this city to the mountains, waterfalls, glaciers and mountain lakes. In Mestia, there are dozens of medieval Svanetian stone houses, surrounded by protective and residential towers; Churches (X - XIV cc). Mestia's many medieval churches and fortresses are included in UNESCO World Heritage List. Mestia is also one of the high mountain tourism and alpinism centers: starting from Ushba, Jangi-tao, Shkhara and others. Mountain climbing; also, in Mestia the ski resort was opened on December 1, 2010.
